olive + elm hair salon named a Certified Sustainable Beauty Business, Commits to Recycling up to 95% of Their Beauty Waste

olive + elm joins over 16,000 Green Circle Salons Waste Warriors dedicated to making a difference

 

Gilbert, AZ, March of 2020– olive + elm has been named a Certified Sustainable Beauty Business by Green Circle Salons, the industry’s first sustainable solution dedicated to fighting beauty waste and climate change. This partnership solidifies olive + elm's commitment to going green and helping minimize their waste footprint. 

The beauty industry creates 877 lbs of waste per minute. By joining Green Circle Salons’ community of 16,000 Waste Warriors across North America, olive + elm is helping to change that by offsetting their scope 2 carbon emissions and recovering up to 95% of beauty waste. That includes previously unrecoverable materials and hard-to-recycle items like hair clippings, foils, excess hair color, aerosol cans, and color tubes.

• Generate 85,866 kWh of clean energy was generated from Waste to Energy. That’s enough to power 94 homes for a month or charge over 7,000,000 smartphones!

• Avoided 2,742.95 metric tons of Co2e by keeping 1,358,103 lbs of beauty waste (like hair clippings, hair color, PPE, and other single-use items) out of the landfill. That’s the same as taking 610 cars off the road for a full year.
